Jon Boat Plans – You can Build Your Own Jon Boat
Looking back at that old Jon boat my dad built 27 years ago just takes me back to being a little kid. He didn’t have any Jon boat plans, he just spent hours sketching and reworking his own cocncept of how was going to construct it. A whole year of making mistakes and learning from them is what it took for him tofinally complete his masterpiece. In the end, it provided me with a childhood of great memories of being out on the lake fishing all day with dear old dad.
Now I’m an adult with a little boy of my own. My son and I love fishing more than anything and it really has brought us close over the 8 years of his existence. It feels just like the good times I used to spend hanging with my dad. Unfortunately my dad’s Jon boat left us quite some time ago, so we’ve come accustomed to just sitting on the side of the lake and casting out our lines. One evening after leaving the dock with only a few bites and no catch to show for our effort. I said to my son:”How would you feel if we had a boat of our own?” Instantly a huge smile spreading across his face he said:” Really Pops! We can get a boat!” I said:”You betcha son but there is only one catch, you have to help me build it.” From that moment on began the father son project of a lifetime.
I recalled what a difficult time my father had designing the boat. It took him countless tries of reworking his dimensions and getting advice from a friend who was a local boat builder before he finally got things right. I couldn’t even tell you how much material was wasted in the first 6 months of production. I knew that I wanted to avoid the hassles my father went through. I decided the boat production should be a smooth ride for my son and I. With the way technology was growing these days I knew that there had to be someway the computer could help us.
After much research I found the right program that did just what we needed to make building our Jon boat simple. It took me a bit to get used to the interface but within a fraction of the time it took my dad to design the boat we had a full in depth Jon boat blueprint that we designed our selves. With that pain out of the way it was time for the best part, production!
Over the next several months my son and I spent every weekend together spending hours in the garage cranking out our new dream boat. I wasn’t about to let my little buddy operate any power tools but aside from that he was great help and kept the dream alive. He was so excited and would tell everyone he encountered how he and his daddy were building a boat together and all the fish he planned to catch. This in turn kept me excited, I just couldn’t stop imagining the two of us sitting in the middle of the lake sipping on orange soda just reeling in the fishies.
Finally after months of hard work we had finished our sweet little boat. We have been out on the lake just about every weekend ever since. There is even enough room on the boat for mommy to come along too. It’s really nice when we can get the whole family out on the water. It means so much to me to be able to do for my son what my father was able to do for me as a child. It has meant so much to me and brought me an endless supply of joy.
Just Imagine what it would feel like to be out on the water in a boat you built with your very own hands.
